Slow Cooker Beef Barley Soup

1 tbsp olive oil
1½ to 2 pounds stew meat, cubed small
1 cup onion, diced
1 cup carrots, diced
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
⅓ cup tomato paste
6 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
⅔ cup pearl barley, uncooked
Salt and pepper to taste
Brown stew meat in a skillet with olive oil, then combine with all the remaining ingredients in a slow cooker. Cook for 4-5 hours on low. Add salt and pepper to taste.
