Joseph Whalen, FNP-C, is a member of Starling’s Family Nurse Practitioner team. He was drawn to join the medical field for its holistic approach towards treatment of patients. His unique expertise as a family nurse practitioner allows him to focus on the health and well-being of the whole person.

Mr. Whalen’s approach to patient care uses a combination of evidence-based and personalized care. He believes that every patient has unique needs and ensuring all decisions are based on evidence is an ethical approach to patient care. “I find it important to make a personal connection with my patients which allows for openness between provider and patient,” he says.

Seeing his patients either maintain or improve their quality of life with the assistance of their healthcare team is what Mr. Whalen enjoys most about his work. He is passionate about conditions in which patients have struggled to find the correct treatment or management, and constantly educates himself on the holism of medicine that considers lifestyle changes and motivational factors.

Outside of work, Mr. Whalen enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and daughter. He plays competitive tennis every week, enjoys cycling, exercising, and gardening. He is a self-taught guitarist and enjoys playing flamenco for its challenging intricacies
