National Physicians Services (NPS): an information technology company owned by Starling Physicians
Did you know that Starling Physicians owns an information technology company that not only provides the IT support of Starling but also provides IT support services for over 1,000 providers in Connecticut and Massachusetts?
National Physician Services or NPS (originally Connecticut Physician Services) was started over a decade ago as a partnership with CMG, Connecticut Surgical Group (CSG), and Orthopedic Associates of Hartford (OAH).
The business goal of creating NPS was no different a decade ago than the goal today to leverage a higher level of technical, project and application resources among a large base of physician groups to a greater extent than either group manage on its own.
With CSG’s physicians moving to employment to HHC, the ownership interest of NPS is now Starling and OAH in a 50-50 partnership. Starling’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Jarrod Post, is the current chairman of the NPS board. Starling is fortunate to have a strong and responsive leader at NPS through its CEO Bryan Graven. NPS currently employs over 30 well trained and experienced professionals who cover all aspects of our IT needs.
The NPS business plan has evolved over the years from not only providing IT support to its owner practices, but now includes a portfolio of practice groups such as Alliance Medical Group in Waterbury, and physicians aligned with Baystate and Mercy Hospitals in Massachusetts, as clients.
For an organization the size of Starling, and with the ever increasing complexity and demands of information technology, our ability to remain competitive is made possible by having the support of a company like NPS that is capable of providing the highest level of IT support. Having a “deep” bench of talent will be critical with our Allscripts roll out and beyond. The expertise of NPS that is available to Starling would be cost prohibitive without the the benefits derived from the economies of scale provided by all of the providers that NPS offers to the providers it serves.
As a Starling Physicians owner it is important to note that NPS is your company. Bryan Graven is available anytime to answer questions or address concerns you may have. I would also invite you to see NPS operations firsthand by visiting their office in Rocky Hill on 25 Laurel Road. The NPS website also provides a great deal of information about the company, to learn more please visit: nationalphysicianservices.com.
