Our History
Starling Physicians has a rich past and represents the unification of two of the leading providers of integrated multispecialty care – Grove Hill Medical Centers and Connecticut Multispecialty Group. Each organization was founded on the belief that the bond between patients and their doctors, providers, and nurses, is the hallmark of effective care.
Grove Hill was founded in 1947 and was based in New Britain, Connecticut. The organization was founded by six independent physicians who merged their different practices into one medical group. This was a relatively new concept at the time, and few organizations were adopting this innovative model. Grove Hill was one of the state’s leading physician-owned and governed multispecialty group practices, providing integrated care to over 120,000 patients in Central Connecticut. With over 100 physicians and other providers of care, Grove Hill had medical offices in New Britain, Newington, Plainville, Southington, Bristol, and Cromwell.
CMG was formed in 1996 when physicians from several single-specialty practices came together to explore options for enhancing patient care. They shared a belief in integrated medicine, giving the medical team the resources for closer collaboration. CMG was one of the largest multispecialty groups in Connecticut, with more than 140 providers in 15 specialties, at 14 locations. Since inception, CMG has been wholly owned and governed by its physicians. CMG had a multitude of offices in locations including Avon, Bloomfield, Enfield, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Hartford, West Hartford, and Wethersfield.
